While (not) studying for my linguistics test later today I stumbled across a fun website. I was looking for an American English phonetics chart, preferably one with playable sounds. What I found was not quite a chart, but not only does it have the phoneme symbols it gives the place and manner of articulation and has a cross section drawing of the mouth so I can watch how the sounds are made while listening to them being played. soundsofspeech.uiowa.edu. I've really enjoyed playing with phonetics both in this class and in past classes. It feels like a code or writing in another language while I'm still only using English with a different list of arbitrary symbols, many of which are actually the same so there are only about 12 to learn (or relearn in my case because several of them are the same as Japanese syllables but make different sounds.)

Currently Listening to: Mr. Pinstripe Suit
There's several things I'd like to talk about, but I think the what I'm listening to title should be fun for a "whatever" kind of post like this one. I've been setting up a new Pandora station and Mr. Pinstripe Suit by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy is what is on right now.
This is not my first attempt at a blog, nor will it probably be the last. I hope that it will be more successful than some others I began, but were discontinued. Some content you may find on here in the future: talk about my current knitting and crochet projects, talk or excerpts of recent writing projects, discussions of interesting school or work moments, One Piece comments, and hopes for my future travel/work abroad. This blog is in no way limited to those topics but those may be the most commonly recurring themes here.
